Mitutoyo 547-258SCAL Absolute Digimatic Depth Gauge with Calibration, Inch/Metric, Indicator Type, 4″ x 0.63″ Base, 0-8″ (0-200mm) Range, 0.00005″ (0.001mm) Resolution, +/-0.0003″ Accuracy
Description
The calibrated Mitutoyo 547-258SCAL Absolute Digimatic digital depth gauge is for measuring the depths of holes and other depressions. It has a measurement range of 0 to 8.0″ (0 to 200mm), a resolution of 0.00005″ (0.001mm), and an accuracy of + or – 0.0003″. The LCD screen displays measurements in inches and metric units. This unit comes with a carbide-tipped contact point and four extension rods (0.5″, 1″, 2″, and 4″) for flexibility in measuring range. The base of this gauge is 4 x 0.63 inches (W x D) for stability, and is hardened, ground, and lapped for accuracy. (W is width, the horizontal distance from left to right; D is depth, the horizontal distance from front to back.) Mitutoyo calibrated tools include a Certificate of Calibration that provides evidence that the tool has been calibrated and is within allowable error specifications. Mitutoyo calibrated tools are certified by Mitutoyo’s American Association for Laboratory Accreditation-accredited calibration laboratory (A2LA Certificate #750-01) to the International Organization for Standardization/International Electrotechnical Commission (ISO/IEC) 17025 International Standard for testing and calibration laboratories.
Additional functions for this indicator include origin set, zero set, and alerts for low voltage, counting value composition, overflow, and tolerance limit setting errors. An Absolute electrostatic capacitance-type linear encoder helps prevent overspeed errors for taking accurate measurements. This unit has a 3/8″ diameter stem and a #4-48 UNF contact point thread mount. It has a flat back for stem mounting or plate mounting on the rear of the indicator. The measuring force is 1.5 Newtons (N) or less. It has a battery life of approximately 3.5 years of normal use. This unit comes with a SR-44 battery. This gauge offers serial data output (using optional SPC cables, sold separately), which increases speed and reliability of digital measurement records. This model comes in a fitted plastic case.

Depth gauges are precision measuring instruments used to determine the depth of any shape that has a step, groove, or slot. These gauges often take the form of sliders that travel on a measuring beam or rods, are moved to position by hand, and then adjusted with a calibrated screw. The base of the gauge rests at the top of the shape whose recession is to be measured, while the beam or rods extend to the bottom of the recession to determine the measurement. Gauge position is read from a graduated scale, dial, counters, or an electronic display.
Mitutoyo manufactures precision measuring tools, metrology equipment, and related systems. The company, founded in Tokyo in 1934, formed Mitutoyo America Corporation in 1963 with headquarters in Aurora, IL.
