Privacy Policy
Effective and last updated: October 9, 2026
This policy explains how information is handled when you visit Optodir, use our contact form, or follow our advertising and affiliate links.
1. Who we are
Optodir LLC (“Optodir,” “we,” “us”) publishes www.optodir.com, an online guide and product discovery website focused on US readers. We operate online and have no physical retail or visitor location. For questions about this policy or your information, email support@optodir.com or use our contact form.
This policy covers information handled through Optodir. Amazon, advertisers, and other websites you visit through our links have their own privacy notices and practices.
2. Information we collect and why
- Messages you send. The contact form asks for your name, email address, and message. Submissions are stored in our WordPress site and sent by email so we can review and respond. Email correspondence may also be retained. Please include only information needed for your inquiry.
- Email subscriptions, where offered. If you subscribe to updates, your email address, subscription preferences, and any name you provide may be used to manage and deliver those messages. Sending a contact-form inquiry is not a newsletter signup. You can request removal from a mailing list using an unsubscribe link in the message or by contacting us.
- Technical and usage information. Our website, hosting services, and analytics tools may receive IP addresses, browser and device details, approximate location, referring pages, pages viewed, access times, and interactions such as outbound-link clicks. This supports site operation, security, troubleshooting, audience measurement, and content improvements.
- Advertising and consent information. Google and other advertising partners may collect cookie or device identifiers, browsing activity, ad interactions, and privacy choices to deliver and measure advertising and manage consent or opt-outs.
- Comments, reviews, or accounts where enabled. These features may collect your name, email address, account details, rating, comment or review text, and technical information used for security and spam prevention. Material you submit for public display can be visible to other visitors. Avoid including private information in public contributions.
Amazon purchases take place on Amazon or the seller’s service. Optodir does not receive your Amazon password or payment-card details through an affiliate link. We may receive referral and commission reports, which can include information about referred activity and qualifying purchases.
3. Cookies, analytics, and advertising
Cookies are small files stored by your browser. Similar technologies, including pixels and scripts, can record visits and interactions. Essential site functions, login sessions where used, security, preferences, and privacy choices may use cookies or local storage.
We use Google Analytics and Google Tag Manager to measure website use and interactions. Google processes information under its own terms. Read how Google uses information from sites that use its services and Google’s Privacy Policy.
We use Google AdSense. Google and its advertising partners may use cookies and similar technologies to select and measure ads, including ads based on visits to this and other websites. Other advertising vendors may also collect information directly from your browser. Available consent messages, ad personalization, and opt-out options can depend on your region and choices.
Amazon links identify Optodir as the referring site. When you follow them, Amazon may receive referral information and use cookies or other technologies for attribution and its own services. Embedded third-party content, such as videos or externally hosted images, can also send technical information to its provider when loaded. See the Amazon Privacy Notice and our Affiliate Disclaimer.
4. Who receives information
Information may be processed by providers supporting hosting, storage and backups, email delivery, site maintenance, security and spam prevention, analytics, advertising, and affiliate attribution. Google and Amazon may use information they receive for their own purposes as described in their privacy notices. Advertising partners may collect information about activity over time and across websites.
Comments and product reviews may be checked by Akismet for spam. This can involve the submitted content, contact details, IP address, and browser information. Read Akismet’s privacy information.
We may also disclose information where required by law or reasonably necessary to respond to legal requests, prevent fraud or abuse, or protect legal rights and safety.
5. Your cookie and advertising choices
- Site privacy controls: where Google displays a privacy message, use its options to manage consent or opt out. Revisit “Privacy and cookie settings” or “Do Not Sell or Share My Personal Information” when those controls are shown. If a control is unavailable or not working, contact us at support@optodir.com.
- Google advertising: manage personalized advertising through Google My Ad Center.
- Other advertising providers: visit Digital Advertising Alliance choices to review participating companies’ opt-outs. These options may apply only to the browser or device used.
- Analytics: Google offers an Analytics opt-out browser add-on for supported browsers.
- Browser controls: you can block or delete cookies in your browser. This may affect site features and erase saved preferences, including opt-outs. Blocking cookies does not prevent every form of data collection.
Opting out of personalized advertising does not necessarily remove all advertising. Ads may still be selected using contextual information.
6. Privacy requests and US state rights
Depending on your location and the law that applies, you may have rights to know about or access personal information, obtain a copy, correct it, request deletion, and opt out of sale, sharing, or targeted advertising. Advertising-related disclosures of identifiers and browsing activity may be considered “sale” or “sharing” under some US state laws even without a cash payment.
To make a request, email support@optodir.com with the subject “Privacy request,” describe your request, and identify the email address or interaction involved. We may need proportionate information to verify a request or an authorized agent’s authority. Do not send identity documents unless specifically requested through an appropriate channel. You may also contact us to appeal a decision where applicable law provides an appeal right. We will handle requests within applicable legal time limits and will not discriminate against you for exercising rights.
Browser privacy signals: the older “Do Not Track” browser setting does not automatically disable this site’s analytics or advertising. Global Privacy Control is a separate opt-out signal. The effect of a signal depends on the applicable service and law; you can also use the choices above or contact us to exercise an applicable opt-out right.
7. Retention, security, and international processing
Retention depends on the type of information, the purpose for which it was collected, the need to respond to inquiries, security and backup requirements, and applicable legal obligations. Form submissions and email records may remain stored until reviewed and deleted. Analytics, advertising, and affiliate providers apply their own retention settings and policies. Contact us to ask about retention or request deletion of information associated with you.
Information may be processed in the United States and other countries where service providers operate. Those countries may have different privacy laws. No website, email service, or storage system can guarantee complete security; please avoid sending sensitive information through the contact form.
8. Visitors outside the United States
Our content is aimed at US readers. Where other privacy laws apply, additional rights may include restricting processing, objecting to processing, withdrawing consent, and complaining to a privacy regulator. The basis for processing depends on the activity: responding to requests and operating a secure website, meeting legal obligations, or consent where required for optional tracking. Contact us for information about the basis and safeguards applicable to your information.
9. Children
Optodir is a general-audience site, and our buying guides are intended for adult purchasers. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has submitted personal information, please contact us so it can be reviewed and removed as appropriate.
10. Changes to this policy
We will publish updates on this page and change the date above. If a change requires additional notice or consent, we will provide it as required by applicable law. Using the site does not by itself constitute consent to optional cookies or advertising.
